Artist Bio
How It Started
A stack of small pads of paper from the office supply store, and a pen...to this day, Katy remembers how excited she was to receive this Christmas gift in second grade. Why? Because it fueled what would become a life-long fascination with handwriting and eventually "drawing" letters...the Art of Calligraphy.
Calligraphic Study
Over the course of the last 24 years, Katy has been fortunate to study under some of the finest national teachers and master penman. The year 2011 has been particularly exciting, due to current enrollment in two year-long courses.
1) Atlanta, GA - 26 Seeds Course with Reggie Ezell of Chicago, IL. A cumulative and rigorous course of study
which includes lettering, exploration of new tools and artistic techniques. Six weekends!
2) Birmingham, AL - Pointed Pen Extended Study. A total of 10 weekends with a variety of teachers including:
* Pat Blair, Chief White House Calligrapher (Copperplate, Spencerian, Layout and Design.)
* Gwen Weaver (Pointed Pen Variations, Pointed Brush)
* Heather Held (Flourishing! Doesn't that sound like fun??)
Calligraphic Guild Associations
Fourteen-year member of FOTA, the Atlanta Friends of the Alphabet. Past member of the Michigan Association of Calligraphers, IAMPETH (The International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting) and Washington Society of Scribes.
Miz Designs/Miz Calligraphy and Personal
Since Katy's two daughters have "left the nest" - and with the blessing of her husband and pets Jack (7 year-old Papillon) and Sandy (11 year-old Ocicat), there is more time to offer Calligraphic Services, in addition to the Miz Designs Products that have been sold at craft shows. Products include: Handmade Note Cards, Bookmarks, Travertine Tiles and more.
Interior Decorator
Yes, Katy is also a professional interior decorator (another passion), but that is a story for another day...or perhaps a blog...
